John Blair Sr. also known as John Blair 1 was born in Ireland in 1737. He came to America sometime before 1754 and settled in Pennsylvania and became a farmer. There he met the love of his life, Martha Laird who was also born in Ireland and together they had eight children. Although John was a little older than most at the time of the war, he wanted to serve his country so he enlisted as a Private in Captain Alexander Peebles' Company, 1st Foot Battalion, Cumberland County Militia of the Pennsylvania Line. The family migrated here to Washington County after the war. John died in 1799 and Martha in 1803. Both of them are buried here.
