Headstone Inscription: Pvt. 1 CL, 211 AAF, Base Unit. Missouri Death Certificate indicates he died at St. Luke's Hospital in St Louis, MO, at age 21 years, 5 months, 8 days and that he was a student at the time of his death. This was shortly after his discharge from the military in WWII. He had married while in the military to Mrs. Mildred Emma Loraine (a young widow who had also lost her first husband in WWII). Mildred's maiden name is unknown.

Death Certificate indicates he was born in Pennsylvania, parents listed as unknown. A child matching his age and name is listed as resident of St Louis Christian Orphus (Orphans) Home & School in Missouri from 1930 through 1940, along with a brother Jesse Edgar Bair. *Census records and death cert of brother appear to indicate their parents were Jesse E Bair and Nettie I Smith of PA. Nettie died in 1928 and husband remarried. It is not known why or how the brothers came to reside at the Christian Childrens Home in St Louis, but they apparently remained there until finished with their school years in St Louis, and then both joined the military as soon as they were old enough during WWII.
