Adam was a Brandywine Hundred farmer whose property was assessed at $10,000 in 1860. He was appointed Sheriff in 1850 to complete the term of his brother Isaac, who died in office. He married Ann Talley and they had ten children. He was a member of Siloam-Bethel M.E. Church for over 50 years.
