The first members of the Ahlefeldt family are Benedictus de Prodole (Perdöl), who was mentioned in 1220, and his brother Scacco de Rumor, the ancestor of the v. Rumohr family. The lineage starts with Benedictus (Bendix) de Alevelde who is mentioned in 1321. Frederik Ahlefeldt (1623-1686) became Reichsgraf on Dec 14,1665 and bought in 1667 the county Rixingen (Réchicourt) in Lorraine, formerly possession of the counts of Leiningen-Westerburg, and the barony Mörsberg in the Alsace. On June 20,1672 the Danish King elevated him to Lensgreve af Langeland. In 1703 the count of Nassau-Ottweiler bought Rixingen. Frederiks greatgrandson Christian (1732-1791) inherited in 1785 the Grevskabet (county) Laurvigen (created in 1671 for Ulrik Fredrik Gyldenløve, illegitimate son of King Frederik III of Denmark). His son general Frederik Ahlefeldt-Laurvigen sold Laurvigen in 1805 to the King of Denmark
