Spc. Blake D. Whipple, 21, of Williamsville, N.Y., died Nov. 5 in Ghazni province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device. He was assigned to the 7th Engineering Battalion, 10th Sustainment Brigade, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, N.Y. Beloved son of David R. and Kim A. (nee Fitzgerald) Whipple; caring brother of Brian C. (Elizabeth) Clyburn and Sean D. Whipple; dear uncle of Carson and Jordan; loving grandson of Arthur L. and Elizabeth A. (nee Smyth) Whipple, the late Edward D. and Norma C. (nee Ostendorf) Winter and the late Retired CW4 Lowell T. Fitzgerald; also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
