Andrew is a son of Alexander Ashbaugh and Lydia (Fox) Ashbaugh, and the husband of Sarah E. (Unknown) Ashbaugh.

From Civil War Military Records: Andrew J Ashbaugh age 18 of Louisa Co., Iowa nativity Ohio enlisted May 7 1864 into Co H 45th Iowa Infantry. Mustered out Sep 16 1864 Keokuk, Iowa at end of term of service(3 months).
