Graveside services for John C. Butts, Jr., shipfitter third class, who was killed on Iwo Jima Feb. 19 1945, will be conducted in Salt Lake City cemetery by Mervyn S. Bennion, American Legion post No. 83.
Born in Salt Lake City Jan. 15, 1921, he was a son of John Charles and Ethel Cherry Rankin Butts. He attended South high school where he was active in sports. He enlisted in the U. S. Seabees Aug. 13, 1943, and after spending a year in the states was sent to Iwo Jima.
He is survived by his widow, now remarried, Mrs. Ruby B. Thornton; a son James E Butts; his mother, and a brother, Stanley Butts, all of Salt Lake City.
