On October 17, 2010 our beloved Mom was called home to fly with the angels. Marie was born at home December 1, 1932 in Novinger, Mo. to Flin & Eula Lindsey. Later her family moved to the Napa Valley in Ca. and then to North Idaho. She grew up in a loving family with her sister Liz and brothers Bill and Kenny.
In 1950 Marie graduated from Wallace High School. She married Frank James Brown "Bud" 4/25/1950 in Superior Montana and became a Navy wife. They were blessed with 4 children, Lyn, Doug, Teresa and Renee. They lived and loved in many beautiful states including Hawaii, California, Nevada and Idaho. Bud was taken home by God March 25, 1965 while stationed in Subic Bay, Phillipines. Marie and the kids were in the process of being cleared to join him in the Phillipines as the family they created together was the most important thing to both of them.
On 2/26/1966 Marie married Mervin Beck in Coeur d Alene Idaho. She welcomed Lisa Beck as a daughter and their marriage was blessed with a son, Nicholas.
Marie converted to Catholocism for Bud and was very active in church life at the St. Thomas parish in Coeur d Alene. She could often be found volunteering at St. Thomas School and IHM High School. She was a CCD secretary as well as a den mother for Cub Scouts and Campfire Girls. She spent many hours nursing the ill in the parish and assisting elderly friends and neighbors with errands and housework. She truly taught us that life spent in service to others is a blessed life.
She is fondly remembered by her children's friends for pizza parties, always attending their school and sporting events, feeding everyone, helping with homework, laundry, school projects and for always being there to listen. She didn't believe a child could be spoiled and was lavish with her time and love to all.
In 1972 Marie became a grandmother to the 1st of her 9 grandchildren. She adored spending time with all of them including teaching them to play cards, days at the beach and parks in CDA and attending their school and sports events. While living in Utah she loved having her grandkids visit and spending summers with them enjoying her backyard pool and visits to amusement parks.
In the late 70's Marie lived for a year in New Mexico and then 10 years in Utah. She moved to Umatilla, Oregon in 1990 and lived there until her passing. For 3 years during this time she and Merv took a posting in Hawaii and she welcomed family and friends for frequent visits and treated them to island hospitality. She easily made friends everywhere she lived with her large heart, gentle spirit and love of fun.
Marie loved to play cards and was often at large famiy gatherings playing and laughing till all hours. She reveled in organizing holidays and having her whole family together to celebrate. Her home in Umatilla was always fantastically decorated for the holidays and many families would drive their children miles to see her Halloween and Christmas displays. She welcomed everyone and was so happy to bring joy to the children. Her yard was also noted for being surrounded by her favorite flower, roses. Her brother Bill had planted over 40 bushes for her and they freely shared beautiful bouquets with the neighborhood, along with the bounty from their vegetable garden.
She frequently traveled all over the United States to visit family and friends and was always on the go before her health limited her travels. In her later years she enjoyed many trips to the Oregon and Washington coasts to whale watch and visit lighthouses. She enjoyed watching a good scary movie and was known by all of her family to be the one to sneak up behind you in the dark and say "Boo". She was truly in her element organizing huge family reunions with her big sister Liz Lassila in Pinehurst, Id during 4th of July holidays. She enjoyed playing games and good food and remained young at heart always.
Marie was also blessed with numerous great grandchildren and had a special place in her heart for each one.
Marie has been reunited with many loved ones in Heaven, including her parents Flin and Eula Lindsey, her husband Bud, son Nicholas, stepdaughter Lisa, and brother Bill. She is missed by her children, grandchildren, greatgrandchildren, sister, brother, many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and husband but her memory will always be alive in our hearts.
