Professor of Mathematicks and the principles of navigaton.
Husband of Margaret Scherrer.
Father of Catherine, Margaret, and Thomas Watt - they died in infancy. Father of Doritie, who died at age 18 years. Sons John and James lived to adulthood.

John Watt was the oldest son. He moved to Glasgow, and was an early surveyor of the River Clyde. The survey was completed in 1734, and he died young, shortly thereafter.

Thomas Watt was originally buried in the churchyard of the West Parish of Greenock. The kirkyard had been in use as a cemetery from 1592 until it closed in 1857. Remains of the burials were re-interred in a mass grave in Greenock's central Cemetery.

Name was misspelled as Wat on the tombstone.
