HICCOUGHS PROVE FATAL
An attack of hiccoughs yesterday proved fatal to Joseph R. Bateman, aged 50 years, at the Deaconess Hospital where he was taken Thursday afternoon for blood poisoning. His arm was badly scratched while working with a popcorn roaster and blood poisoning developed. While at the hospital he suffered an attack of hiccoughs and efforts of the physicians were powerless to save him. Bateman formerly lived at 1309 West Market Street. (name is newspaper error, death certificate shows this is the same person)
