Headstone is badly weathered and may read that he died in Denver, Territory of Colorado, at the age of 46 years. Inscription is in spanish. Excellent biographic information can be found on Karen Mitch's website. http://www.kmitch.com/Pueblo/doyle.html

Probate records from Huerfano County in December 1863 mention his death.

The 1860 census shows him as a freighter living in Mora County, NM, and born in Virginia in about 1825. A son was acting as administrator of his parents estate in 1872, hence the death date estimate of 1871.

Doyle was a pioneer of the Colorado plains, and his settlement, Doyle Ranch or Doyleville was near the cemetery on the Huerfano River. Soldiers from Fort Lyon, which existed farther east on the Arkansas River during the 1860s and 1870s, came to Doyle's Ranch for R & R in the early 1860s (post returns).
