Obituary_Source and date unknown_Berryhill Resident's Father Dies--
Mr. R. A. Morton, retired City Marshall; of Boynton, Okla. died Friday, Sept. 8, in the Okmulgee Osteopathic Hospital with a heart attack followed by a stroke. He was stricken at eleven p.m. Thursday and passed away 7:30 a.m. the following morning. Mr. Morton was born in Cedar Mills, Texas Feb. 7, 1876. He departed this life Sept 8, at the age of 85.
He married Alice Logan in 1899 and came to Indian Territory on Nov. 19, 1902 with two oxen teams and settled in what is now known as Collinsville. To this union five children were born. Mrs Mildred Ayer of San Francisco, Calif., Mr. Jack Morton of Berryhill and three children who died in infancy.
In 1916 Mr. Morton and family moved to Boynton, Okla. and lived there until the fall of 1960 when he moved to Okmulgee and resided at then Cotner Nursing Home. His wife precedeed him in death Sept. 21, 1951.
Mr. Morton was loved and known as "Uncle Bob" throughout Northeastern Okalahoma. Uncle Bob was a charter member of the I.O.O.F. Lodge and held a lifetime membership. He was a member for many years of the East Central Fox and Wolf Hunters Association, and won many awards on their Bench Shows with his dogs.
He leaves, besides his daughter and son, three grandchildren: Mrs Judith Reed, Miss Jackie Lyn Morton, Mr. Frank Morton and a great-grandson Michael Reed, all of Tulsa; and a host of relatives and friends.
Services for Mr. Mortan were held Sept.11, at the Christian Church in Boynton, Okla. Interment was in the Memorial Cemetery, Muskogee. The members of the Muskogee and Boynton I.O.O.F. Lodge were pall bearers and held Memorial Services at the cemetery.
