Nina Helen Farmer Alderman, 87, of Hillsville passed away on Monday, March 10, 2014 surrounded by her children at her home in Hillsville. Mrs. Alderman was born in Carroll County to the late Haskell and Phoebe Ellen Shockley Farmer. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Elvis Alderman, the son of Everette (Ebb) Alderman and America Lee Howlett, sister, Ethelene (Mrs. Glen) Melton, and brother, Arthur Farmer.

Survivors include daughter, Margaret Ann Alderman of the home, son, Charles Allen and Sandy Miles Alderman of Galax, VA, son, Clyde Ray and Joyce Bradshaw Alderman of Bland, VA and daughter, America Jane and Ronnie Taylor of Woodlawn, VA; grandchildren, Danny, Charity, Nicole, Arvis, Blair, Tosha, and Amy; great grandchildren, Matthew, Joshua, Nicolas, Serena, Vicenta, Jacob, Olivia, Madison, Cullen, Chip, Evan, Alex, and Peyton; and two great-great grandchildren, Kiley and Noah. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews; special friends and caregivers, Goldie Austin, Oneda Hutchens, Margie Quesenberry, Jane Patton, Pat Hall, and Charles and Donna Keith; and a special niece, Sharon Pettry Zeitz.

Mrs. Alderman is wearing a brooch which was given to her by her youngest granddaughter, Tosha Rachelle Taylor.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, March 13, 2014, at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel with Dr. Clyde R. Alderman officiating. Burial will follow in the Wilkinson Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel, 1035 North Main Street, Hillsville, VA (telephone number 276-728-2041) on Wednesday, March, 12, 2014 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
