He mustered out with the regiment at Nashville, TN on 8/9/65 and retained one pistol worth $8. He lost a saddler blanket worth $3 and a poncho worth $3. He married Angeline Lewis in 1866 and was a Mason after the war. He was awarded an invalid pension in 1890. In the 1890 veterans' census Barnes was a resident of Holladay, TN and reported his time of service as 7 months and 8 days. He died at Holladay, TN in 1931 and is buried in Liberty Cemetery in Benton County, TN.
