Dr. John Gregory Jr. was born on August 1, 1822 in Otsego County, New York. John Gregory is believed to have been the son of John Gregory, who was born in 29 Jun 1781 in Connecticut and who died on 16 Jan 1847 in Welcome, Otsego County, New York, and Sally (Robinson) Gregory.
If he is the son of this John Gregory, then it was John's older brother, David Robinson Gregory, who came west to Illinois in 1835 and settled in the area that would become Trivoli Towship of Peoria County. David is found in Peoria County, Illinois in the 1840 census. John Gregory may have come with his brother at that time or may have come at a later date.
