Alex Tribune, Alex, Grady Co., OK, Thursday, May 4, 1939: "Former Ireton
Resident Succumbs at OC Friday - W. H. Colwell, 67, passed on Friday from an
Oklahoma City hospital, where he had been a patient for several months. The
Colwell family moved to the Ireton community in about 1917 where they engaged in
farming until four years ago, when Mrs. Colwell passed on. Mr. Colwell has
since made his home with a daughter, Mrs. Pearl Mathews, at Shawnee. Funeral
services were held Sunday morning at Oklahoma City and a brief service at 3
o'clock at the Laflin cemetery, at Ireton, where interment was made. He leaves
five children, three daughters, Mrs. Bill Ferguson of Oklahoma City, Mrs.
Matthews of Shawnee and Mrs. Dillard Bryant of Wetherall, Texas, and two sons,
Farest and John Colwell, of Oklahoma City. The pallbearers were old friends who
had known and respected Mr. Colwell for many years Joe Cox, Nim Wilkins, J. F.
Copeland, J. R. Bayless, D. L. Curtin and L. P. Bunn. Mr. Colwell was laid to
rest beside his wife."
