Sarah Carr White, 93, of McComb, died Sept. 16, 2008, at Beacham Memorial Hospital in Magnolia.

Visitation will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Jones Family Funeral Services in McComb until services there at 3 p.m. Sis. Connie Felter will officiate. Burial will be in Hollywood Cemetery.

Mrs. White was born Dec. 13, 1914, in McComb to Minnie Coen and Forrest John Toulme Carr. She was a teacher in the McComb School District for many years. She was known for her work with handicapped children during the 1950s at what is now Kennedy Elementary School. She later taught reading at Universal and Otken schools. She and her husband owned and operated Cliff White Office Supplies in McComb.

She was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church, where she was active until her health declined. At Centenary, she was a member of the Cecelian Circle and the Oliver Emmerich Sunday School Class.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clifton Lynwood White; an infant son; one brother, Forrest Harold Carr; and one sister-in-law, Frankie Carr.

Survivors include one nephew, Lynwood Carr and his wife Beverly of McComb; two nieces, Kay Smith and her husband Don of McComb, and Sarah Lenoir and her husband James of Ridgeland; two great-nephews, Kenny Carr of New Orleans and Scot Smith and his wife Alexandra of Biloxi; four great-nieces, Chalise Lenoir O'Quinn and her husband Tim of Madison, Sonya Smith Pickens and her husband Jason of Baton Rouge, Amy Lenoir of Madison and Kristi Carr of Lafayette, La.; a great-great-nephew and niece, Bennett and Ainsley O'Quinn. Because of the love and care given her for many years by the dedicated staff at Beacham Memorial Hospital, the family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Sarah White Memorial, Beacham Hospital, P.O. Box 351, Magnolia, MS 39652.
