Newark Advocate 27-Oct.-1884. Mr. Samuel Howell died at his residence in Newark earlier this month 30-Sep.-1884 at the age of 63 yrs. leaving a wife, a son and two daughters to mourn his lost. A sister in Coulmbus and a brother in Oregon also survive. he served in the 5th. Ohio calvary to the close of the Civil war.was honorably discharged. The Lemert Post of the Grand Army of the Republic had charge of his burial and attended the interment of the body, the deceased being in good standing of the post.
