Geo. D. Seeley

George D. Seeley, the subject of this sketch, was born in York, Medina county, May 11, 1838, and died at Wellington, O., March 18, 1909, aged nearly 71 years. He was the eighth child and fourth son of a family of 15 children born to James and Prudence Brown Seeley, eight of whom survive.

He married Harriet B. Stone of York, March 28, 1862, Rev. S.D. Stone officiating at the ceremony. She died Feb. 20, 1906. Six children, four sons and two daughters, came to this family. Three of the sons and one daughter survive the parents, and were present at the funeral.

On April 17, 1861, Mr. Seeley answered the call of President Lincoln for troops to defend the Union, and was mustered into Co. K, 8th O.V.I., under Capt. Wilbur F. Pierce of York. He was injured in line of duty at Camp Dennison, O., from the effects of which he never recovered.

The burial services at his home in Wellington, O., were conducted by his comrades of the G.A.R. on March 20, 1909.
