72, and a resident of Elyria,
was called home to be with
her Lord and Savior Thursday,
September 24, 2009 at Specialty
Hospital in Amherst, following
a brief illness.
She was born February 3,
1937 in Wayland, Kentucky,
where she was raised,
attended school and met her
loving husband. In 1954 she
moved to LaGrange and in
1958 Elyria became her home.
Joann's Christian faith
was the defining priority of
her life. Out of this priority
stemmed her loving and compas-
sionate spirit that was
lived out in her everyday life.
Her greatest joy was found in
her role as a wife, mother
and grandmother "grammy".
She was a member of
Cornerstone Christian Center
in LaGrange, where she
was a supportive partner to
her husband in his Pastoral
ministries. She treasured her
role as a children's Sunday
school teacher and was affectionately
referred to, not only
by her family but church and
friends, as "Grammy" or
"Antie Jo". Joanns's grandchildren
were the joy of her
life and she invested herself
deeply in their lives.
She enjoyed sports especially
baseball, but most of
all she enjoyed taking an
afternoon to go out to eat and
shop with her family. She
leaves behind a legacy of
love.
"Grammy we love you and will
miss you."
Survivors include her loving
husband of 54 years, Rev.
Nelson V. Slone; her sons and
their wives, Kimothy Slone of
Elyria, Jeffrey and Robin Slone
of LaGrange, Michael and Mary
Jo Slone of Avon and Brian
and Robin Slone of Elyria;
her daughter, Dee Collins and
her husband Mike of Amherst;
10 grandchildren; two
great-grandchildren; and her
sisters, Edith Hansford of
Kentucky, Helen Green of
Pennsylvania and Bobbi
Weaver of South Amherst.
She was preceded in death
by her parents, Troy and
Maudie Moore (nee Turner);
and by her sister, Thelma
Embry
