Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Gibson Funeral Home, Erie.
Mr. Gerdes was born Dec. 27, 1934, in Morrison, the son of John and Della Ferguson Gerdes. He married Barbara Smith on Nov. 2, 1965, in East Moline.
He had served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. Keith retired from the U.S. Department of Defense. He enjoyed watching baseball, reading and talking about the Bible and visiting with his friends.
Survivors include his wife; sons, Karl Edward Gerdes and Stephen John Gerdes, both of Ferguson; sisters, Marlene Saad, Erie, Eleanor Lohf, Bettendorf, Reta Morrissey, Lombard, Ill., and Marjorie Carpenter, Albany; and a brother, the Rev. Neil Gerdes, Chicago. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Eloise Johnson.
