John Connors was born in 1922 to John and Edna Connors. He graduated from Des Moines North High. He served in the Merchant Marines from 1943 to 1946. He was a Fire Fighter in Des Moines from 1950 through 1977. John was elected in 1972 to the Iowa House of Representatives and retired in 2004. He served in the East, North and South district of Des Moines and enjoyed the process of government and the legislative issues

John is survived by his wife, Marjorie; son, John (Marion); daughter, Marjene (Marty) Spooner; brother, Rev. Bob Connors; four grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and a whole bunch of wonderful friends. He was preceded in death by his son, Michael; two sisters; a brother; and his parents.

A memorial service will be held at 12 p.m. Wednesday, March 11, 2009 at First Christian Church, 2500 University Ave. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until service time at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church, for the repair of the Bell Tower or North High School music department.
