VETERAN OF WORLD WAR IIOBITUARY OF WALTER W. ADAMS

Funeral services for Walter W. ADAMS, 60, former Hemphill County Sheriff, were conducted Wednesday afternoon at three o'clock at the First Methodist Church in Canadian. The Rev. James Holman, pastor, conducted the rites, assisted by Ronnie Kinnaird, pastor of the First Christian Church.

Burial was in the Canadian Cemetery under the direction of Stickley Hill Funeral Home.

Mr. ADAMS was a long-time resident of Canadian, had been deputy sheriff here under Sheriff Harry Rathjen and succeeded to the office when Rathjen resigned to become Postmaster. Since leaving the law enforcement post, Mr. ADAMS had operated a water well drilling business.

He was a veteran of World War II.

He died Monday morning at Hemphill County Hospital in Canadian, following a long battle against cancer.

Surviving him are his wife, Agnes, of Canadian; two sons, Major Charles ADAMS of Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, and Wade ADAMS of Fairborn, Ohio; three daughters, Mrs. Linda FOX and Miss Denise ADAMS, both of New York City, and Mrs. Diane NORRIS of Canadian; two brothers J. Clyde ADAMS of Plainview and Carroll ADAMS of Wheeler; two sisters, Mrs. Bonnie HARMON of Alice and Mrs. Winona KONGS of Fallbrook, California; 14 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Pallbearers at the funeral services were Glen SITE, Bob LEWIS, Larry SANDERS, Kenneth NEE, Bill ZENOR and Horace RIVERS.
