HARRELL

Services for J.R. Harrell, 89, 1033 N. Pate St., who died Friday (Sept. 4, 1992) will be held in the West Funeral Home Chapel at 10 a.m. Thursday.

Officiating will be the Rev. Ed Williamson of the First United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery.

Pallbearers include Mark R. Harrell, James G. Harrell, Jane F. Harrell, Matthew E. Harrell and Ronald D. Smith.

Mr. Harrell was born Aug. 21, 1903, in Zachary, La., and grew up in Baton Rouge, La. While attending Louisiana State University, he participated in track and was a member of the Southeast Conference championship mile relay team.

In 1929, he married Irma Linn Grantham of Carlsbad and later moved to St. Paul, Minn., working for the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad as a traveling auditor.

They moved to Carlsbad in 1944 where they owned and operated the Hole-in-One Donut Shop for a number of years. He was later employed by IMC Fertilizer and U.S. Potash until his retirement in 1967.

Mr. Harrell was a long-time active member of the First United Methodist Church and was also a 32nd Degree Mason.

Survivors include his wife, Irma Linn Harrell, Carlsbad; two sons, John Harrell of Phoenix, and Bob Harrell of Santa Fe; and six grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church or Lakeview Christian Home on North Canal Street.
