Actor, Comedian. He performed stand-up comedy in the 1950s and 1960s with comedian Redd Foxx. Foxx would cast him as 'Melvin" in his 1970s situation comedy series "Sanford and Son," a role he appeared in for the show's first season. Married to singer LaVern Baker from 1959 to 1969, who would go on to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1991.
