Our Mom and Grandma passed on quietly in her home, surrounded by loved ones on November 17, 2008. Mom's life was full of purpose. She resided at 6498 South Appomattox Way (1405 West) in Taylorsville, Utah at the time of her death.

The eldest of nine brothers and sisters, she was born at Warm River, Idaho to Mont and Myrtle Egbert on August 13, 1922. She grew up in Northern Montana on a farm and she learned to work, to love and to live a good and honorable life. She had a special love for her Mother and it was beautiful to see how tender she was with her especially in her twilight years. She cared for her younger brothers and sisters and did a man's work with her Father on the farm.

One of the greatest generation, she served her country in the United States Army as a first lieutenant in World War II in the Pacific Theater. She blessed many with her tenderness and skills at nursing and leadership. Mom expressed many times to us that it was an honor to serve her country in time of need, and we honor her for doing it. After the war she attended Utah State University in Logan, Utah, where she met John L. Ballou; they married and their union brought forth five children, 18 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.

She worked hard and sacrificed much for her family; yet there was a peaceful and loving side to Mom and she did not seem to mind the sacrifice or the service that she rendered in behalf of her family and loved ones. She enjoyed music and learned early to sing and play several instruments. She loved nature and the time that she was able to spend at the family property at Warm River, Idaho where she could hear the music of the river, the songs of the birds, and the sweet smell of the grass and wild flowers in the morning and the cool breezes of the evening. She loved her husband and family and was devoted to teaching them to love the Lord as she did and to have respect for sacred things. She shared the Gospel of Jesus Christ and lived by its teachings as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband, parents, three sisters and two brothers, and one great granddaughter. She is survived by her two sisters, one brother and their spouses, her five children, Rex (Shauna), Bob (Trenna), Patty (Paul), Michael (Nancy) and Tom (Connie), and her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A service of celebration for Mom's life will be held on Friday, November 21, 2008 at 11 a.m. at the Crosspointe LDS Meeting House, 1325 West 5550 South, Murray, Utah. Friends and Family can visit at the Church an hour prior to the services.
