Neville Edward Bates, 78, of Waco, passed away at a Temple hospital Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2010. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 6, at Pecan Grove Funeral Home, 3124 Robinson Dr., Waco. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive visitors 6 to 8 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.

Neville Edward was born in McLennan County, Texas, near Axtell, to the late Ollie Edward Bates and Jessie Lea (Johnson) Bates. He attended Waco schools and was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Riesel. He owned and operated Bates Cabinet Shop in Waco, inheriting the business from his dad who was also a master cabinet maker. Neville also worked for Mrs. Baird's Bakery for many years. He and his wife, Margaret, were very loving and giving people and had an open door policy to anyone who needed help. Neville will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret in 1999; and brothers, Raymond and Conway Bates.

He is survived by sons, Michael Bates and wife, LeAnn, of La Grange, and Joel Bates and wife, Mary, of Roanoke; daughters, Janice Huse, of Penelope, and Cindy Dunn and husband, Robert, of San Antonio; 18 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and brother, William Eldon Bates and wife, Joan, of Waco.
