Ouida Williams Averett Wood passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, October 31, 2010 at the home of her son, Darin Averett, in Santa Clara, Utah at the age of 82.

She was the first child born to Clayton and Marie Williams on January 24, 1928 in St. George, Utah. She enjoyed a happy childhood in Washington, Utah, where she was surrounded by many aunts, uncles and cousins. She was educated in the Washington County School District.

Ouida married Alpine Averett in Las Vegas, Nevada in 1948. They were later sealed in the St. George Temple. They are the parents of two sons and two daughters; Brent (Kathy) Averett of Highland, Utah, Allyson Johnson of Herriman, Utah, Charise (Bret) Smith of Santa Clara, Utah and Darin Averett of Santa Clara, Utah. They raised their children in Cedar City, Utah. Ouida later married Howard Wood in the Jordan River LDS Temple in West Jordan, Utah. They were married for 23 years until Howard passed away in 2005. Ouida and Howard resided in Cedar City for many years, and then moved to Padre Lakes in Ivins, Utah, where she resided until she was no longer able to live alone. She has resided with her son Darin for the past two years.

Ouida was a devoted mother who always put the needs of her children before any of her own. She supported them faithfully in all of their individual activities. She enjoyed having their friends in her home, and they always loved to gather there because of the fun and loving personality she had and the welcoming environment she provided. She was always a very pleasant and happy individual who could mingle with most anyone.

She was a wonderful homemaker who enjoyed keeping a tidy home, yard and garden. Her cooking skills will be remembered by many. She also made numerous beautiful Afghans for family members.

She had a successful career as a checker for Safeway and Lin's Grocery Stores in Cedar City where she garnered many friends. Often people would wait longer in her line just to have the opportunity to visit with her. She was well liked by all who knew her and she will be greatly and dearly missed.

Ouida was an active member of the LDS Church and served in various callings throughout her lifetime. Even though she was timid to be in front of people, she served faithfully in the callings she was asked to fulfill. She will always be remembered as a woman of great honesty and integrity who has blessed countless lives through her good works.

Ouida was preceded in death by her husbands, Alpine Averett and Howard Wood, her parents, Clayton and Marie Williams, a brother, Verjean Williams and an infant son that was stillborn. She is survived by her four children, a brother, Ned Williams of St. George, Utah and one sister, Deanna Pendleton of Salem, Utah. She is also survived by 19 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren, with many more undoubtably on their way.
