SMITHFIELD - Margo Jane Reed, our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend passed away Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2010, surrounded by her family at home after a year-long battle with pancreatic cancer.
Margo was born Jan. 15, 1938, in Steubenville, Ohio. Her family relocated to Grosse Pointe Park, Mich., where she spent her school years. Margo graduated with a bachelor's degree in education from Michigan State University in 1960. The following year she married ENS William Henry Reed, SC, U.S. Navy.
The two spent the next 30 years traveling the world following Bill's naval career. The couple has three children, Susan Page, Lisa Simmons, and David Reed; and seven grandchildren; 2LT Evin Page, Zachary Page, Carter Page, Rachael Simmons, Ansley Simmons, Reed Simmons, and the youngest, Rebecca Reed.
Bill and Margo retired to Smithfield in 1998, to live closer to daughter, Lisa, and family. There they made lifelong friends because of Margo's outgoing, vibrant personality and active involvement in many areas. Margo was an avid gardener, community volunteer, and church member. She served as a reminder to all of us to live life to the fullest with her positive outlook, enthusiasm, and unending faith.
A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 30, at Colonial Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary Barker officiating. Holy Eucharist will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 31, in Christ Episcopal Church, 111 S. Church St., Smithfield. Inurnment will follow in the Church Columbarium.
A donation to Heartland Hospice, 5040 Corporate Woods Dr., Virginia Beach, VA 23462; or Christ Episcopal Church, 111 S. Church St., Smithfield, VA 23430, can be made in honor of Margo.
Arrangements are in the care of Colonial Funeral Home, Smithfield. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at dailypress.com/guestbooks.
