Norris Jennings Shoemaker, 70, of Grottoes, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2009, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg. Mr. Shoemaker was born on March 23, 1938, in Rockingham County, Va., and was a son of the late Owen and Lottie Lowry Shoemaker. He was also preceded in death by three brothers.

Norris was a member of Grottoes Church of Christ and a U.S. Air Force veteran. He, along with his wife, owned and operated Shoemaker's Servicenter in Penn Laird from 1972-1987.

On Sept. 5, 1959, he married Beverly Adkins Shoemaker who survives. He is also survived by a son, Barry J. Shoemaker of Grottoes; a daughter, Kelly S. Dean, and husband, Rick, of McGaheysville; a brother, Hunter "Jack" Shoemaker of Prospect, Ky.; and four sisters, Frances Davis of West Mifflin, Pa., Carolyn Armentrout of Harrisonburg, Shirley Reedy of Mount Crawford and Yvonne Shoemaker of Grottoes.

The family will receive friends for a time of fellowship and remembrance on
Saturday, Feb. 14, 2009, from the hours of 10:30 a.m. to noon at the Grottoes
Church of Christ (U.S. 340 South) Cremation will be performed by Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg and a private burial will occur at a later date.
