Freda (Howk) Mitchell, age 89, of Lakin, Kansas, formerly of Brookfield, died Friday, June 4, 2010 at Kearny County Hospital in Lakin, Kansas.
A graveside service will be Thursday, June 10, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Rose Hill Cemetery in Brookfield. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. at Wright-Baker-Hill Funeral Home in Brookfield.

Freda, the daughter of Ray Bruce and Sarah Pearl (Rinehart) Neely, was born June 14, 1920 in Brookfield. On December 2, 1940, she married Orland Howk in Kalamazoo, Michigan; he preceded her in death on August 3, 1962. On October 5, 1963, she married Harold Mitchell in Pueblo, Colorado; he preceded her in death on November 23, 1996.

Mrs. Mitchell was a homemaker. She had worked as a telephone operator, at Woolworths and had managed a bowling alley. She was a member of the New Garden Baptist Church in Brookfield. She enjoyed traveling, cooking and spending time with her family.

Her parents and two sisters, Vera Neely and Myrtle Howk also preceded her in death.
