She was born February 23, 1924, in Bennington Bear Lake, Idaho, to Lorenzo and Mary VanOrman Speirs. Berniece attended the Bear Lake Valley schools. She also attended Idaho State University where she earned a Bachelor's degree. She taught school in Kimball, Pocatello, and McCammon. She has taught grades 1-7 and said her favorite was fourth. She was and active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She served an LDS mission to the Western States Mission. Berniece had several church callings including Relief Society President. Her favorite calling was the one that she shared with her husband Wilson, dance directors at the stake and regional levels. She married Wilson D. Tarbet on October 5, 1950, in the Salt Lake Temple. Berniece enjoyed dancing, singing, swimming, writing poetry and doing yard work.
Surviving children are Mahlon W. Tarbet of Pocatello, Idaho, and Susan (Mark) Kirkpatrick of West Valley, Utah. Sister Margaret (Legrand)of Montpellier, Idaho; brother, William V. Speirs (Myrna) of Ucon, Idaho; Mike Mickelson (Colleen), brother-in-law, Washington, Utah. Nine grandkids and six great-grandkids.
Berniece was preceded in death by her parents, Lorenzo and Mary Speirs; beloved husband, Wilson; brother, Eldon Speirs; and sister, Louise Speirs Mickelson. The family would like to give a special thanks to Pocatello & Idaho Falls home Health and Hospice, one source hospice and Creekside Hospice in Idaho Falls and the loving staff and friends at the Gables Assisted Living Center in Idaho Falls for making her last years comfortable.
