Ryan Mark H. McCormick, 19, died unexpectedly on Monday, November 17, 2008. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 22 at Iles Funeral Homes – Dunn's Chapel. Ryan's uncle, Father James McCormick, will officiate. His family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Ryan Mark Herring McCormick was born November 20, 1988 in Des Moines and was a graduate of Roosevelt High School. Ryan completed one year of college at The Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington and was attending Kirkwood Community College. Ryan loved music; composing, listening and playing guitar, keyboard and piano. He read widely and enjoyed discussing the difference between the concepts of time and eternity with his father.
Ryan Mark is survived by his parents, Mark McCormick and Victoria L. Herring of Des Moines; two sisters, Marcia McCormick (John O'Connell ) of Birmingham, AL and Katharine H. McCormick of Des Moines; two brothers: Michael McCormick (Amy Beth) of Boulder, CO and Paul McCormick (Amy) of Longmont, CO; nieces and nephews, Morgan, Ceridwen, Rhiannon, Kelton, Finn, Anna and Matt; several aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents and an uncle John.
Ryan's family has established a scholarship fund through which an annual scholarship can be awarded by Roosevelt High School to a graduating senior pursuing an education in the fine arts. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Ryan Mark H. McCormick Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Bankers Trust, Des Moines Iowa 50309, or to the charity of your choice.
