J. H. (Uncle Joe) DIAL was born in Hopkins county, Texas, in October, 1858, and departed from this life at Perryton, Texas, May 7, 1931, at 10 o'clock p.m.
Mr. DIAL was married to Miss Zora WILKINSON, in Hunt county, Texas, in 1888. To this union were born six children, three sons and three daughters; Claude DIAL who is in Honolulu; Adrain DIAL of Perryton; Walter DIAL of Miami; Mrs. Irene McKINNEY and Mrs. Glena SHEARER of Dallas; and Mrs. Lillian MOORE of Illinois. Mrs. DIAL preceded her husband in death in November, 1926.
Uncle Joe DIAL came to Roberts county in 1911, returning to Hunt county, Texas, for a year, moving back to Roberts county in 1913, where he resided continuously until about a year ago when he moved with his son, Adrain, to a ranch in Ochiltree county, near Perryton.
He was for a number of years engaged in the grocery business in Miami, and was a man whose word was his bond, living daily by the Golden Rule. He leaves a heritage to his children that money cannot buy.
Funeral services were conducted at the home of Mrs. W. H. DIAL, Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock by Rev. James Todd Jr., of Pampa, assisted by Rev. E. M. Dunsworth, pastor of the Salem Baptist church, and Rev. J. W. Chisholm, pastor of the Methodist church..
The beautiful floral offering bore testimony of the high esteem in which he was held by the many friends of the family.
The pallbearers were Boaz RASOR, Wilbur WAGGONER, Arthur CORSE, Pittman COUNTS, Dan GRAHAM, and Wesley DAVIS.
Interment was in Miami cemetery. - Miami Chief.
