Cpl. Brett W. Land, 24, of Wasco, Calif., died Oct. 30 in the Zhari district, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky. Corporal Land is survived by his wife, Sarah Land of Hesperia; newborn baby daughter, Rileigh Land of Hesperia; father, Kenneth Land of Camp Nelson; mother, Gretchen Land of Bakersfield; brothers, Ryan Land of Sonora and Rocky Land of Placerville and sister, Julie Land of Sonora.
