Mary Nell Fitzhugh Newman, was born on July 8, 1918 in Muhlenberg County, Kentucky to her Parents; Franklin Wesley Fitzhugh and Carrie Ola "Cattie" Welborn Fitzhugh.
She was blessed with seven siblings; Duke Bowden Fitzhugh, Linnie Fitzhugh, Broadus Lehmon Fitzhugh, Nannie Evelin Fitzhugh Johnson, Gladys Welborn Fitzhugh Newman, Layton Carroll Fitzhugh, and Hilda Louise Fitzhugh.
Her Grandparents on her Father's side of the Family were; William Butler Fitzhugh and Susan Mahala King Fitzhugh, and her Grandparents on his Mother's side of the Family were; William Thomas Welborn and Hannah Caroline Marion Welborn.
She was married to her Husband, Lewis D Newman for fifty-nine years until his passing on May 6, 1996.
They were the Parents to two son's; Marl T. Newman, Steve Newman, and one Daughter; Marilyn Newman Laster.
They were the Grandparents of seven grandchildren; and the Great Grandparents to 14 Great Grandchildren.
She was a devoted member of the Carter Creek Church for more than 75 years.
Mary, passed away at the age of 87 years old, on Friday, July 22, 2005 at the Belle Meade Nursing Home in Greenville.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Lewis D. Newman, her oldest son, Marl T. Newman and all of her siblings.
Survivors include a son, Steve Newman; a daughter, Marilyn Laster; seven grandchildren; 14 great - grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and three in - laws she loved like her own, Faye Newman, Bud Laster and Debbie Newman.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on July 25 at the Carter Creek Church with the Rev. Kevin Burden and the Rev. Blayne Hall officiating. Burial followed at the Carter Creek Church Cemetery next to her Husband; Lewis D Newman. Gary's Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
