Kenneth Ray Maze, 73, died October 20, 2010 at his daughter's home in Birmingham, AL after a prolonged illness. A memorial service will be held at 2:45 p.m. on Friday, November 5th, at the Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo. Mr. Maze was born February 10, 1937 in Salt Lick, KY to Bessie Goldie and Alton Maze. He was the third of five boys. He joined the Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict in 1953 and was designated as a Fleet Marine. After a duty related injury, he served with the 2nd Marine Division as a Motor Pool Licensing Trainer until 1957. After his honorable discharge from the Marines, he trained in electronics and worked with the U.S. Air Force in civil service for 25 years in several positions including Quality Control (Line Manager), Flight Line/Avionics, and Communications. In 1970, he received the Air Force Logistics Command's Gold Zero Defects Award. Mr. Maze received a medical discharge from civil service in 1974. He opened Maze Electronics in 1976 and then expanded his enterprises in 1982 to include Ken's Collectible Cars until his retirement in 1993. He was actively involved in several veteran organizations such as the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars (V.F.W.) and the Disabled American Veterans (D.A.V.). Mr. Maze is survived by his son, Kevin (Ellen) Maze of Montgomery, AL and his daughter, Kendra (Jim) Smith of Birmingham, AL; long-time friend and partner Katie Goree; his brother, Donnie, of Mooresville, IN, and several nieces and nephews. Brothers James, William and Thomas precede him in death. The family would like to thank the friendly, caring staff of Amedisys Home Health Hospice and Always There Home Care Services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund, 825 College Blvd, Suite 102, PMB 609, Oceanside, CA 92057 or the Disabled American Veterans Memorial Program, P.O.
