Ethel had six siblings. In 1900 census she was 15 and living in Santa Cruz,
with her parents, who ran a hotel. In 1910 the family has moved to Sonoma
County and at the age of 25 Ethel is one of 3 adult children still at home.

When she applied for a passport in March 1922, her residence was Sebastopol.
She was unmarried and her occupation was Teacher. She was applying for a
passport with the intention of starting her trip about July of 1922, possibly
visiting 19 different countries; British Isles, France, Switzerland, Holland,
Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Belgium, Italy, Germany, Austria, Monaco, Hungary,
Luxemburg, Algiers, Tunis, Egypt and Portugal. Her plan was to return within 2
years. Ethel was 37 at the time.

She returned from her trip on the S.S. Leviathan, sailing from Cherbourg, France, on August 26th, 1924, arriving at the port of New York on September 1st, 1924.
