Mary's baptism record was in the year 1873, in the village of Basien, East Prussia, about 10 miles from her husband Joseph's village. ('Bazyny' comes up as the city, on Google maps for Poland). Her maiden name Sperling is the German word meaning 'sparrow'. She was baptized at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Basien (built in the 1300s and still standing).
-courtesy of research by great grandson, Dustin Ballard (2019).

*Note: the term 'Prussia' is not a selection to choose from on this site. (As a generalization, our family had previously claimed 'Germany' as our heritage, though Grandpa, Frank Fischer did say "Prussia").
