My mother loved life, and looked forward to learning how to do many new skills in sewing, cooking, water color painting, and etc. She was an animal lover! We had many different kinds of pets–dogs, cats, birds, fishes, and etc. She loved baking many different kinds of Christmas cookies. My mother loved the great operas like "Turandot," classical music and Broadway musicals. She loved the Lord Jesus Christ and read the Bible daily. I miss her, but the GOOD LORD gave her a better place to live!

Mary Yeager Brumback's Favorite Cookie Recipe

Norwegian Sugar Cookies

½ cup butter
1 cup sugar
1 egg, well beaten
2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons Apple Jack Brandy
1 tablespoon vanilla

Cream shortening. Then gradually beat in sugar. Beat in egg. Sift flour, baking powder, and salt; stir into shortening mixture with brandy and vanilla. Chill in refrigerator until dough can be handled easily or if you have the time, chill over night for better results. Roll out on floured board or pastry cloth to 1/8 inch thickness, or thinner. For best results use pastry cloth and rolling pin cover. Cut into small stars, circles, etc. Place on greased cookie sheets; sprinkle with colored sugar or granulated sugar. Bake in moderate oven of 350 degrees for 6 to 8 minutes, or until golden brown. Makes 12 dozen 1 ½ inches cookies.
