Pete Whatley, 77, a former Fort Morgan businessman, died suddenly at his home in Greeley Friday.
Whatley was born April 24, 1924, in Trout, La. He enlisted in the United States Army and then joined the United States Air Force. During his 23 years of service Whatley served his country in World War II.
On Sept. 13, 1950, he was married to Mary Jane Morgan in England. He retired from the military service in 1964 and settled in Fort Morgan with his family. Whatley and his brother-in-law, Herb Blake, owned and operated Model Cleaners from 1964 to 1970. He then worked for Tieman's Clothing for Men for 17 years. He then retired and moved to Greeley to be near his family.
Whatley filled his days with family, church, outdoor activities and as a Wal-Mart greeter.
He is survived by his wife, Jane Whatley; his children, Karen Louise (Whatley) Brewer, Deborah Lou (Whatley) Lusby and James Boyer Whatley, and eight grandchildren.
Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday at noon at the Church of Christ in Fort Morgan. Interment services will be at the Akron Cemetery at 4 p.m.
