"Last of the hereditary chiefs," serving along with Chief Bacon Rind and other tribal band chiefs of the Osage nation, in Indian Territory.

Served his tribe "with wisdom, integrity and faithfulness" is inscribed on Memorial monument next to burials. Educated at Carlisle Indian School in Pennsylvania, he spoke English, but habitually spoke Osage only, during tribal negotiations and meetings. Said to be instrumental in confirming and establishing protective legislation for the Osage mineral wealth that was found and accumulated in the 19th century. His wife Julia, is buried here, daughter of the Osage tribe and descendant of Paw-huska.
