Longmont Ledger (Longmont, Boulder County, Colorado)
March 31, 1905
CUSHMAN--At Victor, Colo., Wednesday, March 22, 1905, of Meningitis, the result of an accident, Victor Cushman, aged 35 years, 4 months and 11 days.
Victor Cushman was the eldest son of A.W. and Fannie Cushman, old residents in the St. Vrain Valley. Was born Nov. 11, 1869 and attended the old Burlington school in his younger days and graduated from the Longmont high school in 1888. In his class were Miss Nellie Mills, Mrs. Loella Stoddard Robbins and Miss Katherine Davis. He resided with his parents on the farm until 1898. He worked at the Abstract of Title Co. of Boulder of which he was manager until 1890, when he resigned in favor of Guy. A. Adams of Boulder, and was similarly employed in making the set of Abstract books for Teller County, when it was made a county by the division of El Paso County.
He commenced work on the Portland mine at Victor in the fall of 1901, where he was employed at the time of his death. He was married to Mrs. Linnie Dosier of Loveland, July 26, 1903. Was a member of the Longmont Lodge No. 29 I. O. O.F., and his last request was that his remains be brought to Longmont for interment. He was a man of excellent character, good habits, liked and respected by every one he came in contact with, and had a large circle of friends wherever he resided.
His death was caused primarily by an injury received while at work at the mine.
The remains were brought to Longmont, and funeral services were held at the residence of H. H. Golden, Monday afternoon, Rev. Dr. Mayo officiating after which the remains were taken in charge by the Odd Fellows, their service being held at the grave.
Among those present from a distance were: Mrs. Dela Arthur of Teluride, Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Kempton and three daughters, parents and sisters of Mrs. Cushman, Mr. Mitchell, brother-in-law of Las Animas, Mrs. Davis, a cousin, Mrs. Kempton, an aunt, of Loveland, besides other distant relatives of Mrs. Cushman from Loveland.
