Longmont Ledger (Longmont, Boulder County)
Aug 14, 1908
Death of A. W. Cushman
A.W. Cushman died in California Sunday afternoon. We have known that he has been a sufferer from kidney trouble for some years and went to California hoping for relief.
Mr. Cushman belonged to the pioneers, and was among those who crossed the plains in 1859 with an ox team, settling at Georgetown first and afterwards coming to Boulder county and taking up a homestead southwest of Longmont, now in possession of his son Cleveland.
Mr. Cushman has been an active man in his prime and associated with those who have built up our community. He was a successful farmer. Was a member of the Colorado regiment during the Civil War and fought in the memorable battle of Sand Creek against the Indians.
He removed to Covina, California, about seven years ago, and about two weeks ago he suffered an operation.
A.W. Cushman was born in Maine in 1838, and leaves three children in California, Mrs. Della Arthur, Hobart and Delbert Cushman, and three in Colorado, Mrs. James H. Golden, Walter and Cleveland Cushman.
