MARRIED
KITELEY--KIRKPATRICK--At the Kiteley residence on Ninth avenue, New Years day, 1908, Rae H. Kiteley and Miss Mary Kirkpatrick, Rev. Dr. Longrren officiating.
Only a few relatives and friends of the groom were present at the ceremony. The bride is a teacher in the Columbine school and is from Michigan. The groom is the well known superintendent of our schools, a Longmont boy, who has grown up in our midst, honored and respected. They have known each other eight years to a day.

Rae Kitely passed away on September 23, 1954 at the age of 76.
Rae Kitely was the son of venerable Longmont pioneers William and Margaret (Kalb) Kitely, and he was one of Longmont's most influential citizens through the first half of the twentieth century.
Born at Liberty Hall, Weld County, in 1878, Kitely grew up in Longmont, graduating from the Longmont Academy. He earned a B.A. degree from the University of Colorado, and an M.A. degree from the University of Michigan.
After serving for a time as the Principal of Schools at Lawton, Michigan, Kitely returned to Longmont where he became an instructor and the Principal at Longmont High. He was appointed Superintendent of Longmont Schools, circa 1909, and he was elected Mayor of Longmont for a ten-year period between 1911 and 1921.
After retiring as mayor, Mr. Kitely entered the banking business, and also practiced law, holding a membership in the Colorado Bar Association. According to his obituary, Kitely was also interested in "clean sports." In his younger days he was a professional bicycle racer, and he also served as the first football coach at Longmont High.
On New Years Day 1908, Rae was united in marriage to Miss Mary Kilpatrick, and the couple moved into this newly-built home at the corner of 9th and Atwood later that year. Mary had been born January 18, 1876 in Owosso, Michigan. She attended a girls school in Kalamazoo, Michigan, and graduated from Olivet College in 1897. She then taught school in Michigan, Montana, Washington, and Alaska, before coming to Longmont to teach in 1907.
Following their marriage, Mary no longer taught; however, she continued to stay professionally and civically active. Most notably, she served as the Head Librarian at the Longmont Public Library between circa 1926 and 1945. Mary (Kilpatrick) Kitely died three years later in September 1957. She was 81 years of age.
