Private, Company A, 7th US Cavalry. Killed in action during the Battle of the Little Big Horn, in which General George A. Custer and most of the 7th Cavalry were killed.

He enlisted on 7 Dec 1874, in Boston, Massachusetts, for the 7th Cavalry, listing his previous occupation as Laborer. He was 5 feet, 6 1/2 inches tall, with gray eyes, brown hair, and a medium complexion. On 29 Jan 1876, he was court-martialed and sentenced to three months at confinement at hard labor and loss of all pay, for striking Sergeant James Clark, and for destroying Sergeant Clark's stable frock. During the battle, his company was assigned to Reno's Battalion, and he was killed near the river during the retreat of the battalion from the valley floor to the hilltop. After the battle, the bodies of the dead soldiers were buried where they were found, and in 1877, the bodies were reinterred into a mass grave at the top of Last Stand Hill.
