Elizabeth Chesher was the daughter of Baptist Chesher and Margaret Simpson of Prince William County, Virginia. Born about 1765, she married William Simpson about 1784 in Prince William County. Her name and her husband's appear in the Virginia Chancery Records, Halifax Chancery Records, Index #1832-021: Suit of Simpson Chesser v Zacchius Chesser re the sale & distribution of the proceeds of the estate of Baptist Chesher which included two enslaved people. The lawsuit names the 11 children of Baptist Cheshire, widower, including "Elizabeth who intermarried with William Simpson". Notice to heirs was published several times in a Virginia newspaper, Lynchburg, and a copy of thepublished notice is included in the case files. Also included in the law suit was Daniel Chesher, who married Elizabeth's sister Jeane.
