The DOD is from the Death Certificate although the marker shows a different date.

D. H. L. lived in Omen, Texas, and was a popular postmaster. He served in the Confederate army, Company E, 14th Texas Infantry, commanded by Col. Ed Clark.

He was also Justice of the Peace in Omen for 2 years, a office his father, Benjamin Beckham Bonner, held for 14 successive years.

From the Handbook of Texas Online, Omen, Texas:
In April 1879 Dixon H. L. Bonner petitioned the United States Post Office Department to renew the local branch. Upon approval, Bonner became the postmaster and called the post office Old Canton.
