Elisha served in the 31st Regiment of the Virginia Infantry during the Civil War. His Regiment fought for the Confereracy. When he returned home, it is reported that he was so thin as to be unrecognizable, His family drew a rifle on him in fear. He returned home with a Union belt buckle that is still treasured by the family.
He married Elizabeth Jane White in 1866 in Randolph, West Virginia. He and Elizabeth had three daughters, Emma May McCloud Haywood Francis, Ida Edna McCloud Parker and Ala Carna McCloud.
The McCloud family moved across the country to Weber County,Utah sometime between 1898 and 1900. The 1902 Ogden city directory lists the family residence as 816 12th St and his occupation s farmer. In the spring of 1907, they moved to Mesa Arizona. Two and 1/2 years after the move Elisha passed away due to heart failure while working his farm. His family later returned to Utah.
