MRS. J.A. BECK DIED SUDDENLY

Prominent Resident Stricken With Heat; Funeral Pending

Mrs. James A. BECK, prominent Fairfield resident for sixty years, passed away suddenly last evening at 7:35 oclock at her apartment over 61 West Broadway, after being stricken with the heat. Mrs. BECK just recently returned from California where she spent the winter months.

Mrs. BECK was born in Ohio September 18, 1849. Her maiden name was Miss Esther S. McKESSON. She was prominently identified with Fairfield's business interests for many years, being proprietor of the LEGGETT hotel until about 25 years ago when it was sold to CHESTER and TROWBRIDGE. She was also one of the four founders of the Fairfield Christian Science church and has been a member since its formation.

Fifty-two years ago she was united in marriage to James A. BECK, who preceded her in death October 6, 1930. After the selling of the LEGGETT hotel Mr. and Mrs. BECK went ot Lake Okoboji, which was becoming a noted summer resort, and started a hotel there which they retained for a number of years. The also conducted the John Jacob ASTOR house at Mackinac Island, Mich, for some time.

Mrs. BECK is survived by one brother, O.P. McKESSON of Edmon, Calif., and two nieces, Mrs. Will WHITE of Spencer, Iowa and Miss Lula STOUFFER, with whom she has lived for several years.

Funeral services will be held at 5 oclock tomorrow afternoon from the Murray Funeral Home in charge of Mrs. Lonnie Graham. Interment in Evergreen cemetery.
